SCCM Agent Push Installation - Cannot get the right machine to install SCCM agent

You have a checklist and followed exactly all the steps to install and configure SCCM server. However, you might still face problem when you doing client push installation from the SCCM console.

Scenario:
You select a set of collection and right click and select Install Client. You will assume the client push installation success rate is higher because all the machines are connecting to the network. After a while, you notice some of your computer can get the SCCM agent installed but alot more still not. You try many times, but the SCCM agent still cannot push to the targeted machines.

Nothing goes wrong in SCCM server. In this case, you might have to check the DNS server. Probably you might notice a hostname is holding multiple IP records or vice versa. Therefore, DNS server can't resolve the name and caused SCCM server cannot contact the targeted computer and push the SCCM agent to the targeted computer.

To solve this issue:
1. Open DNS
2. In the console tree, right click the DNS server, then click Properties.
3. Click the Advanced tab.
4. Check the "Enable automatic scavenging of stale records". As below:

Try to check your DNS records again and make sure the DNS can resolve the hostname. Then, try to push the SCCM client installation. I am sure you will like me because the success rate of the SCCM client push installation has been increased significantly. :)

Missing Required Software at Self Service Portal

Encountered a problem while setting up a demo set for software distribution in SCCM 2012. My Windows 7 cannot download software from the Software Catalog.

Scenario:
I have Windows XP and Windows 7 machines in my test environment. Distributed the software and both Win XP and Win 7, both users can see the list of software in their self service portal.

I can install software via self service portal in my Windows XP. However, when comes to Windows 7, I got the following error message after i clicked "install" or "request" button at software catalog page:

Error Message:
Missing require software.

The software that is required for this installation is unavailable. Either the required software is not installed on your computer, or it cannot be found on your network. You can continue to browse the Software Catalog or to manage your software requests, but software cannot be installed until the required software is available.

After some research, found out this issue was caused by the Protected Mode at Internet Explorer 7 in Windows Vista and later.

To solve this issue:

1) Open the IE. Select Tool (Alt + x) > Internet Option > Security tab. Select Trusted sites and click the Sites button:

2) Add the URL of the SCCM 2012 Application Catalog Web Site Point.

Gentle reminder: Remember to uncheck "Require server verification (https) for all sites in this zine" to avoid getting the error message "Sites added to this zone must use the https:// prefix. This prefix assures a secure connection".

3)Then, click the Add button and the URL will appear in the Websites list as below:

4) Da~lang~~~ It works for me!!!

I can request or download software from my self service portal.

Enjoy SCCM 2012. :)

Failed to install SCCM client by Right Click Tool - 0x80040281

I got this error message after I tried to use Right Click Tool (version: 0424ConfigMgrTools) to install SCCM client:

Error Message:
Failed in GetCertificate0x(...) 0x80040281
File 'C:\WINDOWS\system32\ccmsetup\{4CD82FBB-0AFC-4864-A089-15364DF5F14B}\client.msi' doesn't have a valid digital signature.

This scenario happened when the Right Click Tool is using an older version of ccmsetup.exe to install the SCCM client on the workstation.

To solve this issue:
1. At your SCCM server, copy newer version of ccmsetup.exe from DriveLetter:\Program Files\Microsoft Configuration Manager\Client\
2. Paste the newer version of ccmsetup.exe to DriveLetter:\Windows\SCCMTools

I dint get same error message after replaced the ccmsetup.exe. Good luck to you. :)

Yesterday went for a fruitful microsoft event - TechDays Singapore 2011. Today, I joined as a student helper and as well as a student in weiking SCCM 2012 master class at Tiong Bahru.

One of the students got this error message when he was trying to install SCCM 2012:

Error message: An error has occurred while attempting to download or verify required prerequisite components and Setup cannot continue. Review the configmgrsetup.log file for further details.

And we found out "ConfigMgr.Manifest" is missing from the pre-download prerequisite updates folder:

This file missing scenario happened when user select the "Download and use the latest updates. Updates will be saved to the following location"

To solve this issue:
1) Copy the missing file back to the pre-download prerequisite updates folder. Make sure the prerequisite update folder has 14 items in total:

2) At the updated Prerequisite Components page, select " Use previously downloaded updates from the following location".

Hope this helps. :)
